HTC EVO 4G reviews
May 25th, 2010 by edwblogThe long wait is over-Sprint and HTC’s much anticipated brainchild, the EVO 4G, is finally out. Engadget described the birth of this fearsome smartphones when “a merry band of gadget nerds got tipsy at the watering hole and started riffling about their idea of the ultimate mobile device”.
However, the HTC EVO 4G is going to have an easy time entering the smartphone market as formidable competitors are already present and have caused wavers among the smartphone public. One of these smartphone royalties is the Motorola Droid, which is revered as one of the most powerful Android phones today.
So with all the buzz surrounding the HTC EVO 4G will make the Motorola Droid a run for its money?
Design/ Form Factor
The HTC EVO 4G is like that person in a party that is difficult not to notice. With an all black exterior coupled with subtle red accents and a sheer size that just commands attention, the HTC EVO 4G is undeniably one beautiful device. The Motorola Droid also sports a premium look with a full glass display and polished metallic look. It has a physical keyboard and is considerably thin given its slider form.
Display and User Interface
The Motorola Droid sports one of the biggest touchscreen displays in the market today with a 3.7-inch glass display at 480×854 resolutions. Well, the Motorola Droid’s reign in this department may seem to be over with the coming of the HTC EVO 4G that brings with it a humongous 4.3-inch display at 280×800 resolution. This allows for delightful user experience especially with multimedia applications.
Additionally, the Motorola Droid utilizes the standard Google Experience User Interface while the HTC EVO 4G is equipped with the HTC Sense UI that makes the user experience more distinct, personalized and customizable.
Processing Power and Operating System
Again, the Motorola Droid was once the forerunner in this arena powered by a 550MHz Arm Cortex A8 CPU with 256MB of RAM which is the same processor found in iPhone 3GS. This made applications such as Internet browsing snappier. Then comes HTC EVO 4G equipped with the much talked about 1GHz Snapdragon, 1GB ROM and 512 RAM. The Motorola Droid runs on Android 2.0 while the HTC EVO 4G operates on the newer Android 2.1.
Memory
Easily, the winner in this criterion is the Motorola Droid with a massive pre-installed 16GB that is expandable to 32GB via a microSD card. The HTC EVO 4G does not offer an internal memory already it comes with an 8GB microSD card.
Camera
The HTC EVO 4G packs an impressive 8-megapixel camera that can shoot high-definition (720P) videos. It also has a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video calling and chatting. These specs make the Motorola Droid’s 5-megapixel camera forgettable.
Conclusion
Aside from the things mentioned above, the HTC EVO 4G brings with it the innovative Sprint 4G WiMax network which is still in its infancy but can offer speeds of 10 Mbps for downloads and 1Mbps for uploads. On the other side, the Motorola Droid has been tried and tested and got good reviews from critics and users alike. The two phones are great investments. But all in all, the HTC EVO 4G may bring more to the table because of its relative newness.
